Dr Arindam Kar is Chief Intensivist at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.


After completing his MD & DNB, he successfully pursued his Critical Care training from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. Thereafter, he completed his European Diploma in Intensive care Medicine from St Georges University Trust Hospital, London, UK. Later he completed his Fellowships at the American College of Chest Physicians, Society of Critical Care Medicine, USA & Indian College of Critical Care Medicine, Mumbai. Dr Kar has multiple observers & short-term trainings in more than 15 countries all over the world.


In his rich experience spanning 21 years in Critical care Medicine, Dr Kar has served in various capacities at reputed institutes. He had been Director of Critical Care Services in CK BIRLA Group of Hospitals & Medica Superspecialty Hospitals, Kolkata


Dr Kar is the present National General Secretary Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine since 2020. He also had been the Asia Pacific Representative of the Executive Council, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, from 2015 till 2018


With more than 10 scientific papers to his credit, more than 200 major talks (speeches) by invitation at various Conferences/ Symposia/ Workshops/ Congress Meetings and 10 poster presentations, Dr Kar is a known & recognised personality in the field of Critical Care. He has held critical positions for Conferences on numerous occasions. & Presently he is the Organising Secretary for the next National Conference of Critical Care Society to be held on February 2022.


Dr Kar also has vast experience in training and is the Teacher for Fellowship in Critical Care, National Board (DNB) Delhi, India; teacher & Examiner for Certificate Course in Critical Care Medicine under the auspices of Indo-Australian Critical Care Training Programme, Diploma and Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine for Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine & European Diploma in Intensive care Medicine. He has trained nurses, registrars and junior intensivists all over the country. Dr Kar has also contributed to initiate & propagate the Indian Diploma in Critical Care Nursing & the Diploma in Critical Care Technology. He is also a reviewer of Indian Journal of Critical Care Medicine


Dr Kar has been the Centre Director for European Diploma in Intensive care Medicine Part 1India, since 2015. Total more than 1500 young Intensivists has appeared & around 1000 eventually were conferred with European Diploma under his initiation & guidance


Dr Kar had served the following positions in past with great success: Chairperson: Health Subcommittee: Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Member: Health Committee: CII & CEO of the first ever Home Care services in India: Medica Home Care Services.


Dr Kar had been the pioneer in initiating Tele-ICU services & ECMO support in Eastern India.


Dr Kar received the Best Doctor of Bengal 2019: “Chikitsa Sanman” by Ministry of Health & family Welfare, Govt of West Bengal. Awarded in person by Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal.


Dr Kar has been the Chief Coordinator for the Position statement of The Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine on COVID 19 care & an active Member, Protocol Management Committee: COVID-19: Ministry of Health & Family Welfare: Govt of West Bengal in 2020.
